Disposable Film Fest

Disposable Film Fest

These are short films made on non-professional devices such as one-time use video cameras, cell phones, point and shoot cameras, webcams, and other inexpensive, readily available video capture devices. It reminds me of the Diana/Holga camera & the Fisher Price PXL2000 aka Pixelvision video camera concept, which I love. This definitely sparked a new interest in art for me and will be creating some shorts.

Check out the site at Disposable Film Fest and browse or submit your winning video today for the up coming festival in the summer http://www.disposablefilmfest.com/

$1 Image Stabilizer For Any Camera - Lose The Tripod

$1 Image Stabilizer For Any Camera - Lose The Tripod

This instructional video creates a great way to lose the tripod and take clear shots thanks to Cobbler. Using a string, bolt, and washer for a image stabilizer under $1 this is great. Being a photographer I now how busy places hate tripods so I will try this out and let you know how it works. But if anyone has tried it please comment.

Pillar Point, Half Moon Bay

So it is January 19th and I am in short sleeve T-shirt here in the S.F. Bay Area. It is something I cannot get over. I do love it. So I went with my family down to Half Moon Bay to see where the Maverick Surf contest was. It is located off of Pillar point. When we got there to my surprise there is tide pools with actual moving, swimming, fighting sea creatures. I had so much fun exploring the tide pools. If I wasn’t a graphic designer I would have wanted to be a marine biologist. I love the ocean in so many ways.

Macworld 2008

So working a few blocks away I went on my lunch break again. Nothing really to talk about, but the Skull Candy booth in Moscone West was kind of fun to visit. And they had free wristbands in pink…. Hey it’s for my daughter….

Sol Food

One of my favorite places to eat in San Rafael, CA is Sol Food. It is a Puerto Rican restaurant. They have lots of things going for them. First thing they have great food and everything is fresh. I always order the ” bistec sandwich”, it is thinly sliced steak w/ grilled onions, avocado, swiss, and garlic mayo ( I get it without since I hate mayo) and it is pressed. Then it comes with this tangy clear hot sauce that I want to put on everything I eat…. I also got the “mofongo” which is green fried plantains mashed up with garlic. That is something I crave all the time.

Bistec with mofongo

The second thing is they are open till 10pm and I think there smaller location is open till 2pm on Fri & Sat. This place is definitely doing something right cause it is always packed. They have 2 locations a block from each other .The one on 4th is a small location only a few seats but the original one, the 2nd location is a big lime green building which has seating and the ambiance is great . You feel like your in a tropic food joint. The building made some of the locals angry cause the green color. This place just adds color and flare to the drab buildings around it. Check it out it’s worth the trip. I have seen some great comments at the Chow message boards

Frank Chu

No matter where I go I always run into Frank Chu. He kind of has a cult following in San Francisco. Well he was at the Macworld 2008 standing right outside Moscone Center West. If you are interested in reading more about him here is a link to his Wikipedia page about him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Chu

Griffin Earbuds

I got hooked up with the new Griffin TuneBuds mobile today for the iphone. I was expecting more companies to have headphones w/mic for the iphone since there is only a few out there. So i was happy to see that Griffin has one coming out soon. I tried them out on my bus ride home and it is hard for me to compare these to other rubber tipped earbuds since I have never tried any of them. They do cancel out 80% of the sound and I am not sure if I like that. I like to know whats going on most of the time. The sound was a little bit tinny and did not have a good scale in sound. I am used to the Apple ear buds and feel the Apple buds are more comfortable, but I think it is my opinion. For the price that they will be sold for ($39.99) I do think they are worth trying them out. They also come with a great case and 3 sizes of rubber tips. If anyone tries them out let me know what you think.tunebudsmobile_1-1.jpg
